Ever follow a blog of a celeb? Admire them.. enjoy their challenges and reading their creative artsy life? I follow Emily Falconbridge. She does a great 52 Challenge where each week she asks a little question to get the mental gears going and does a cute tag.. but I try to do a cute little page to put on my ATC holder..
Anyway.. ever follow a blog of a celeb and then see your name IN THE BLOG??? Hehehe.. too cool. I love that she let me do this.
Here's a link to her blog.. and Pssst.. you could win something ;)

Freebie Shout Out!
hey check out this cool tote. Making Memories is giving it away on their blog.. go over there and post a comment to enter to win.
Keeping the background and losing the scraps
So I mentioned it briefly in the Page Starters but thought I would elaborate. One of the coolest tips I've picked up is getting 6 photo mats off a 12 x 12 paper.
If you are anything like me, and most other scrappers, the large majority of your photos are 4 x 6. I like leaving a lot of my photos in about this size. Cropping down photos can be fun and add diversity and interest to your pages. However, leaving photos larger and minimally cropped can provide more to the story.
What's the background show? That Thanksgiving show with Aunt Milly's ugly lamp in it. The same lamp as a child you thought was hideous, now brings up so many memories as an adult. Imagine now if you had scrapbooked back then and cut that lamp out of the photo. Sometimes a photo can be worth a 1000 words, but sometimes what you cropped off was 900 of those words.
I'll end my little lecture on leaving the background in photos from time to time. (a lecture akin to one I received from a Ms. Pattie Knox in an online chat ;) anyone else present for that?) and move on to getting the most of the 12 x 12 paper.
I found in my early days that I would mat my photos and have weird shaped scraps of paper left .. until someone pointed out something too obvious for me to figure out on my own. (Oprah has her "aha" moments, I have my "oh duh" moments)
Take your paper and cut it in half, then cut each half into three sections.. each section will be 4 x 6.. this will give you SIX photo mats from just one sheet of paper. Yes, I can hear you "but the photo is 4 x 6" It is, but if you trim the edges by a total of 1/2". You will then have a photo 3.5 x 5.5" and once on the mat it will have a 1/4" mat framing it.
This will alow you to get several mats from one sheet of 12x12 paper. Creates less scrap for you to deal with later. (Do I toss it? Save it? If I save it how do I sort and store my scraps?) This method also allows you to retain a large portion of the photo, most photos can be cropped this little bit and still retain the feel, background and subject of the photo.
So the next time you are scrapping, ask yourself not what you are cropping towards, but what are you cropping off? And try cutting 6 mats out of one sheet.. heck, I bet a lot of the paper you are hoarding would make great photo mats.. you could cut a bunch up and have them piled & waiting for use!

Etsy Finds.... from the July Kit
I wanted to share where the Etsy finds came from for the July kit.
In the Main Kit there is a beautiful Red Felt & Lace flower. I just thought it was such a cool blend of textures and the color was a great shade. I found those at this shop run by Tessa:
Precocious Paper
In the Special Edition Kit there is a cute little Lemonade Sale card. It was without question a must have with Basic Grey's Lemonade line. I found these cool cards in Shannon's shop:
Paper Eclectiques

Some more inspiration...
This layout by Joan Liddle can be found in the Basic Grey June Bug idea gallery. Great way to use up some left over strips any of these papers.

This layout by Kelly Goree is another great example of getting use of the smaller pieces you may have leftover. It can be found in the Basic Grey Lemonade idea gallery.

NEWS: Store update
Please do not worry we had a little snag with the store and it is down. Kits will still go live tomorrow even if I have to throw them in my etsy shop. I hope that's not the case and the new store is already being worked on as I type this.
I'll let you know as soon as it's up again. Sorry!
